‘Simply Wet Felting, Past and Present’
Glenys Sandham

You may recall an evening last year when Glenys came to teach us how to use alcohol inks on paper, cards and tiles. We have invited her back to teach us about Wet Felting. Most of us go to Hobbycraft and pick up a piece of felt if we need some but have you ever tried making your own? Come along to hear what Glenys has to say and to see items that she has made and it will change your mind on felt.

“What is felt? Few people know what felt really is and the history and importance of it over centuries. Learn about the history of wet felting and experience making a small item to take home with you.” (Glenys)

Review of the Evening

Glenys was met with a sea of enthusiastic faces eagerly awaiting her instructions. She began the evening with a potted history of felting from around the world showing us that it has been around for centuries, even apparently covering the floor of Noah’s Ark.

She demonstrated covering a large pebble with merino wool and felting it using hot soapy water, a pop sock and friction! After a short time the covered pebble was rinsed in cold water and the excess water removed leaving behind a delightfully coloured paperweight or ornament. Members were delighted with their results.

Glenys had brought many items of her craft work in the form of pictures, framed and ready for framing, necklaces, bracelets, brooches, bowls, covered vases, plus a folder of delightful photographs showing previous work.

Take a look at the following photos to see our members in action, their finished products and Glenys’ wonderful display of her craft.
