WOMENS RUGBY WORLD CUP 2025

Northamptonshire Federation of WIs has been asked to Yarnbomb some of the street furniture within the St James area of Northampton that lead to Franklins Gardens, and where some of the World Cup matches will be played, including England. This will be a high profile event shown on TV and social media across the world and gives us an opportunity to put Northamptonshire WIs on the world stage!

Northampton in Bloom and Rugby Welcoming Ceremony The Guildhall and Market Square, Northampton
Both areas will form part of the Northampton in Bloom competition which is the first two weeks in June. The Guildhall will also be the venue for a Welcome Ceremony for the teams. We have agreed with Northampton Town Council to the hanging of two (or more) camouflage nets covered with red, pink, gold and white roses to be displayed on a tree at the entrance to The Market Square, and at the entrance to The Guildhall so this work will need to be completed by 3rd week of May.

We joined St George and his dragon on the Market Square Northampton to celebrate St George's Day. It was an ideal opportunity to showcase some of the yarnbombing we have prepared in readiness for the Womens World Rugby Cup matches to be held in August 2025. Carolyn was busy showing young girls how to crochet!

YARNBOMBING – WWRC 2025
I am really excited about the progress we are making with the yarnbombing project and extremely grateful to all of you who are taking part. I can’t wait to see it all on display. With that in mind we are looking for people that may be able to help in a practical way by sewing things together ready for display. We also need people to help us attach the displays onto the allotted street furniture and railings. This will entail tying, stapling, sewing or knitting things We hope to have a local facility to use for storage whilst we do this.
