Flower Arranging Demonstration

We all love to watch someone being creative with flowers and foliage, even if we can’t manage it ourselves. This evening we can sit back and watch an expert at work.

Alison Bolton from The Blossom Shop at Woodford Halse was our speaker and demonstrator this evening. She gave us a brief resume of her life leading up to being a florist, with work in the food industry, Avon cosmetics, teaching, lecturing, garden industry and now floristry. She began with silk flowers and progressing to real ones.

Alison made a hand tied arrangement and then trimmed it to fit into a vase. She told us to view it from all angles before completing it and particularly from where most people will see it. Flowers should be taller or shorter than the vase, not the same height. She continued with an arrangement in a small metal watering can, followed by a small hat box. These were lined with cellophane before black Oasis was put in for support. This would stop any leakages.

The arrangements were given to us for our raffle.
