Roy Smart
Roy Smart will be telling us the story of Amy Johnson CBE, a pioneering English aviator who was the first female pilot to fly alone from Britain to Australia.
Roy's meticulous research and use of technology enabled him to present a captivating story of the extraordinary life of aviatrix, Amy Johnson, beginning with her birth near the Humber estuary through to her mysterious death, further south in the Thames estuary, at the age of 37. Our knowledge was widened as Roy detailed the amazing achievements and highs and lows of Amy's life.
A replica of her flying bag - all that was retrieved from the crash on January 5th 1941 sat poignantly on a small table in front of us throughout the excellent talk enjoyed by all.
