January 13th
Iris Paper Folding with Lucy Phelps
The anticipated January meeting with Margaret de Banke leading us in a new painting technique was put on hold until we can meet in the Village Hall. Covid in the village caused some concern to the committee and we decided to revert to a craft evening on Zoom again.
Lucy offered to lead the meeting showing us how to do Iris paper folding which is a Japanese art of paper craft. It is done by arranging and layering strips of paper in a spiralled pattern that resembles the iris of a camera lens. Whilst the finished product looks complicated, iris folding is pretty easy and even a little addictive.
11 members joined the event and 7 made a card which they showed at the end - (see photo)
We all enjoyed the occasion as it was easy to chat along at times when not fully concentrating on the placing of paper strips. From one pattern, 7 completely different delightful effects were produced.
