December 10th 2015
Our Christmas meeting is to be a Joint one with Blisworth WI who meet on the same evening as us. We have been invited to join them in Blisworth Village Hall from 7.30pm to a 'Truce and Party' night.
We are asked to take a gift for Santa's sack to the value of approximately £3 to join in the festivities.
A plate of savoury food for sharing is also required. Blisworth WI will provide the sweet course.
Dress for the period of the First World War is optional.
Transport will be arranged for those requiring a lift, at the next committee meeting.
Review of the evening
As you can see from the photos, the majority of people put some thought into what they wore for the evening of nostalgia. A group photo was taken of the most authentic ideas and the ladies tried to keep straight faces as they would have done in 1915.
Blisworth WI made us very welcome and their hall was festive and warm. After a brief business talk by both Presidents we began the celebrations by pulling joint crackers. The raffle ticket inside was a tombola type raffle with only certain numbers being lucky. One enterprising member from Blisworth had organised her husband to make log reindeer for sale for charity and she herself had made the table decorations and most of the crackers.
The food table was groaning with the different plates of food donated by all members. There was something for everyone and most people went back for 'seconds'. The Blisworth committee had made a selection of 'olde worlde' desserts such as trifles, blancmanges and bread puddings as well as Christmas cakes, mince pies and cheeses. All were tried and enjoyed.
The Blisworth Handbell Ringers entertained us with three carols and we played Pass the Parcel before having gifts from Santa's Sack before making our way home.
A most enjoyable evening. Thank you Blisworth and we welcome you to our party next year.
