Anyone Can Save Lives

Rebecca Ayton

Rebecca Ayton will give a very useful presentation to equip us to successfully cope with any unforeseen medical emergencies that may happen to come our way. We never know when we might need vital life saving skills so this session is a must!

Review of the evening.

Rebecca showed us three items which were to prove useful to the amateur - a bottle of water (empty it and scoop up vomit for Drs to examine), a McDonald's paper cup or any other fast food cup she hastened to add (for use as a spacer in an asthma inhaler) and a dog poo bag (for getting rid of clinical waste).

3 Ps were the first necessary things to remember - Preserve Life (your own first, then the casualty), Prevent situation worsening (crowd control and stopping 'helpers') and Promote Recovery (talk to casualty, distract them).

4 Bs followed - check Breathing, Bleeding, Burns and Bones.

She was a very amusing speaker and had everyone in the palm of her hand such were her tales of activities. The subject was a serious one but her manner of delivery was excellent.
