Jo's Cake decorations

The Speaker for February is Jo Brennan who is a home baker, with her own business, based in Earls Barton. Jo makes celebration cakes, wedding cakes, cupcakes, novelty birthday cakes and cake toppers to go on your own cakes. She has promised to give us tips on cake icing and how to make fondant icing flowers. Naturally she would like to promote her own business and will be bringing some of her own cakes for us to try and buy.

Can you use all these tools correctly and expertly? You might be able to, after you have listened to Jo's talk.

Review of the evening Jo has only recently started her business, creating and decorating cakes. She demonstrated making a moulded rose from sugar florist paste which can be rolled much thinner than the fondant icing favoured by most amateur bakers, but it sets very hard rendering it inedible and only a decoration. She showed us some icing leaves which she wires to add to her roses.

She donated a cup cake bouquet for the raffle and also 'sold' her business cards for £1 to raffle another of her creations, a chocolate raspberry cake. Slices of Victoria sponges were also for sale.
