Unfortunately, Dan Reid has had to cancel his talk on the Jubilee Pageant due to unforeseen circumstances. We hope to have a similar talk before too long.

Meanwhile we have managed to find someone to step into the breach and talk to us at short notice.

 Memoirs of a Traffic Officer
  Richard Lawrance

Richard's talk is about his experiences as a Police Traffic Officer. He has spent a number of years on motorway patrol, chases etc and has many interesting incidents to relay to us.

Richard was doing us a favour as our speaker had dropped out. He is a former Motorway patrol officer with the Nottinghamshire Police Force. He retired about 17 years ago but still has many memories of incidents around the Midlands on the M1. There were the inevitable fatalities, some suicides and several funny stories in his bank of stories. "It wasn't my fault," said the young girl at the back of a 3 car shunt, "I had my foot on the brake but the car wouldn't stop."
Why was a Chinaman walking down the central reservation holding a map of the London Underground?
"I can't get off this b.... road," said the lady in the Rolls Royce at the scene of a crash, with her indicator still flashing, "I was shopping in Knightsbridge."
He has helped a lady find her car when she had parked on one side of the M'way and forgotten that she had walked over the bridge, stopped a cyclist from continuing his journey on the M1 and helped a motorist realise that the excuse "my fuel indicator says I'm out of fuel so I'm going to the garage before it runs out,"  doesn't wash with a traffic cop stopping her for speeding!
These and many others made for an entertaining evening.
